CHICAGO MAYOR SPIRALS: Lori Lightfoot Blames City’s Historic Murder Rate on Lack of ‘Federal Strategy’

posted by Hannity Staff - 7.10.20

Embattled Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot continued to deflect criticism of her administration’s response to the city’s spiraling gun violence this week; blaming a lack of “federal strategy” to curb the shootings.

“We have got to make sure that we do a better job of taking guns out of the hands of criminals,” Lightfoot said Friday on MSNBC Live With Stephanie Ruhle. “We have to have a federal policy on background checks and making sure that dangerous people are not able to go across the border to states like Indiana and get military-grade weapons in quantities and then bring them back to the streets and shoot people up. That’s what’s happening.”

Shootings in May spiked 71% in 2020.

“There’s way too many illegal guns on our streets, and we can’t fight that fight alone,” she said. “We got to have a federal strategy on this. We’re going to continue to do what we can do. We’re going to continue to make sure that we are flooding these dangerous hot spots with resources to make sure that we keep our communities safe, but we’re fighting a losing battle. If we don’t have a federal partnership on restricting access to guns in the hands of dangerous criminals, we’ve got to have partnership on that.”

“Violence is crimes of poverty, violence is crimes of people feeling like they have no hope,” Lightfoot said. “When we see young men feeling they’re like only destiny is to be on a corner on somebody’s drug spot, we got to change that around and let them know that their future actually can and should be in careers and college, but we’ve got to make those kinds of investments to make that real. … We’ve got to the find the resources, and we have them, to uplift neighborhoods.”

ALCOHOL CURFEW: Chicago Mayor Imposes Curfew for Liquor Stores After Spike in Violence

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.09.20

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is imposing a liquor store curfew across her city Thursday evening after late-night violence distracted police officers during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“After Tuesday night’s violence that left seven people dead and 14 injured, and the inability for some to follow the stay at home order, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has placed a 9:00 p.m. liquor purchasing curfew starting Thursday,” reports CBS Chicago.

“Effective April 9, we are placing a 9:00 pm curfew on liquor sales in Chicago. A liquor curfew will remain in place during Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s stay-at-home order,” Lightfoot said.

“These actions place additional and unnecessary burden on our hospitals and ICU units. Violence of any kind is never acceptable but the fact that this is especially urgent now as our ability to protect all Chicagoans is being stretched to the breaking point. We cannot allow that to happen and we will not allow that to happen,” Lightfoot added.

BREAKING: Chicago Mayor Fires City's Top Cop, Cites ‘Ethical Lapses’ and ‘Dishonesty’

posted by Hannity Staff - 12.02.19

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot abruptly fired the city’s police superintendent Monday; citing “ethical lapses” and “intentional dishonesty” regarding an incident that occurred last October.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was fired Monday a few weeks before his planned retirement — the stunning early dismissal by Mayor Lori Lightfoot issued alongside a stinging rebuke of the city’s former top cop that cited his ‘ethical lapses’ and ‘intentionally dishonest’ answers regarding a controversial October incident,” reports Fox News.

“The ignominious end to Johnson’s tenure comes a few weeks after he announced plans to retire at the end of the year. His decision to leave the job came amid intense scrutiny of an Oct. 17 encounter in which police officers reportedly found Johnson asleep in his car at a stop sign. Lightfoot later said Johnson confessed to her he had ‘a couple of drinks with dinner’ before getting behind the wheel that night, and the incident was still being investigated as of Monday,” adds Fox.

“Upon a thorough review of the materials of the Inspector General’s ongoing investigation, it has become clear that Mr. Johnson engaged in a series of ethical lapses that are intolerable,” Lightfoot said in a biting statement Monday. “Mr. Johnson was intentionally dishonest with me and communicated a narrative replete with false statements regarding material aspects of the incident that happened in the early morning hours of October 17.”
