‘PREPARE FOR PANDEMIC’: San Francisco Declares Citywide ‘State of Emergency’ Over Coronavirus

posted by Hannity Staff - 2.26.20

San Francisco Mayor London Breed declared a citywide ‘State of Emergency’ Wednesday; calling her decision a pre-emptive measure to stop the deadly Coronavirus before it arrives on the West Coast.

“We see the virus spreading in new parts of the world every day, and we are taking the necessary steps to protect San Franciscans from harm,” Breed told reporters.

“As more and more countries experience community spread, successful containment at our borders becomes harder and harder,” Nancy Messonnier, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said Tuesday.

“It’s not a question of if this will happen but when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illnesses,” she added. “Disruption to everyday life might be severe.”

There are more than 80,000 confirmed cases around the world, with approximately 3,000 people killed from the deadly disease.

BREAKING: CDC Says Coronavirus Will Likely ‘Become a Global Pandemic,' Urges Americans to Prepare

posted by Hannity Staff - 2.25.20

Officials at the Centers for Disease Control confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the deadly Coronavirus will likely “become a global pandemic” in the coming days.

“Current global circumstances suggest it’s likely this virus will cause a pandemic,” Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told reporters.

“It’s not so much a question of if this will happen any more, but rather more a question of when this will happen and how many people in this country will become infected and how many of those will develop severe or more complicated disease,” she added.

The virus has infected more than 80,000 people -mostly in China- and killed upwards of 3,000. Recent outbreaks in Italy and Iran have drastically increased the likelihood of a major outbreak somewhere in the United States.

“We must use this time to continue to prepare for the event of community transmission in the United States,” Schuchat said. “Part of that preparation is educating the public and our state, local and private sector partners about what transition from aggressive containment measures to community measures or community mitigation would look like should we end up there.”

OUTBREAK SPREADS: Coronavirus Kills 5 in Italy, 50 in Iran, Officials Warn of ‘Pandemic’

posted by Hannity Staff - 2.24.20

Health officials in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe are working around the clock to contain the spread of the deadly Coronavirus, with local authorities confirming five additional deaths in Italy and more than 50 in Iran.

“Health officials stressed on Monday that while Iran and Italy have reported a surge in coronavirus cases over the last several days and raced to cancel public events, the outbreak, which originated in China, has not yet met the criteria for a pandemic, although it ‘absolutely’ has the potential to get there,” reports Fox News.

“Using the term pandemic now, it doesn’t fit the facts, but it may cause fear,” World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Monday. “Now is not the time to focus on what word we use – it will not prevent a single infection or save a single life.”

“Sometimes, when you see an acceleration of cases and a spread from that, it doesn’t necessarily represent the transmission of the virus,” said WHO executive director of emergency operations Dr. Mike Ryan. “We need to understand the exact dynamics of what has happened in Iran.”
