Washington Post Re-Writes Trump History

Vladimir Putin

There they go again.

Over at The Washington Post is this headline:  ‘Something has to be done’: Trump’s quest to rewrite history of the Russia probe

What follows is yet another of endless examples of the Leftist State Media (the LSM) itself re-writing history. Let’s run through this jewel point by point.

The Post says:

“The U.S. intelligence community long ago produced evidence of Russia’s illegal interference in the 2016 presidential election to try to boost Donald Trump’s candidacy.”

Left out?

Ya can’t make it up.  Unless, of course, you are The Washington Post and that is exactly what you are doing.

First, the Russians have been interfering in American elections to try and elect one or another candidate of the moment for decades – there was nothing new here. As documented by Dr. Steven J. Allen at The Capital Research Center, the headline was: Russia Meddled and Almost Nobody Cared, Until…

Allen’s documented list, which I will summarize, is as follows:

“In 1948, the Progressive Party—a front for the Soviet-controlled Communist Party—ran former Vice President Henry Wallace as its presidential candidate.

President Eisenhower today accused Soviet Premier Nikolai A. Bulganin of meddling in the American election campaign,” the United Press reported on October 21, 1956.

Historian Bruce Dearstyne reported that the Russian ambassador in 1960 invited Stevenson to the embassy, “plied” him with “drinks, caviar, and fruit,” and offered to back him if he would run for president again. Stevenson rejected the offer.

Nikita Khrushchev, the Soviet premier in 1960, bragged in his memoirs that, “by waiting to release the U-2 pilot Gary Powers until after the American election, we kept Nixon from being able to claim that he could deal with the Russians; our ploy made a difference of at least half a million votes, which gave Kennedy the edge he needed.”

In 1968, under orders from Moscow, the Soviet U.S. Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin offered to secretly fund Hubert Humphrey’s presidential campaign.

In 1976, Senator Henry “Scoop” Jackson (D-Wash.), a strong anti-Communist, ran for president. The Russians sent forged FBI letters to journalists claiming that Jackson was a closeted homosexual.

In 1984, the Heritage Foundation issued a report, “How Moscow Meddles in the West’s Elections.”

“Last year the Soviets tried to influence elections in West Germany and Britain,” Heritage reported. “And this year it is America’s turn. For months, Moscow’s statements and actions have been aimed at defeating Ronald Reagan.” Methods included manipulation of the peace movement, threatening statements, and “direct appeals” to voters including “mass demonstrations.” Russian meddling was so frequent that the West German chancellor commented, “One was used to this sort of thing.”

And, of course, who can forget 2012? When President Obama was caught on a hot mic requesting election help from Vladimir Putin in a conversation with the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Got that? There was Russian meddling in the American presidential elections of 1948, 1956, 1960, 1968, 1976, 1984 and 2012. Any of this mentioned in that Washington Post story? Of course not. The objective is to re-write history to make Russian interference seem like a Trump-only fact. And, but of course, there was no reference whatsoever to the role of Russia in the Clinton campaign-paid-for Steele dossier.

For the record, here’s The Daily Caller headline: Steele Identified Russian Dossier Sources, Notes Reveal

The story begins this way:

“Dossier author Christopher Steele identified a former Russian spy chief and a top adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin as being involved in handling potentially compromising information about President Donald Trump, State Department notes show.

In her notes, State Department official Kathleen Kavalec also referred to the two Russians — former Russian foreign intelligence chief Vyacheslav Trubnikov and Putin aide Vladislav Surkov — as ‘sources.’”

Then The Post says this:

“Trump is claiming vindication and exoneration not only over his conduct with Ukraine — for which the House voted to impeach him…”

There is zero mention that it was House Democrats -in a completely partisan vote – that did this. In fact, the only bipartisanship came when three House Democrats voted against impeachment and a fourth voted present.

The Post laughably refers to Attorney General Barr, saying that until Trump and Barr the Justice Department, “has long shielded its independence from political influences.”

Um…no. Whether it was Obama Attorney General Eric Holder refusing to prosecute the Black Panthers for voting rights violations when they stood outside a Philadelphia polling site to intimidate white voters – because they were “my people”? Or when Holder was held in criminal contempt by the House for refusing to cooperate in an investigation of the Fast and Furious scandal? Or when Holder described his job as being Obama’s “wingman”? – and no Justice Department lawyers resigned at the failure of DOJ to investigate the boss? Or when there was the infamous tarmac secret meeting with Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch and ex-President Bill Clinton – when Hillary Clinton should have been investigated for her secret server and missing e-mails. nary a mention of this kind of seriously corrupt politicization of the Justice Department in the story. Facts like these are simply airbrushed away as if they never existed.

The Post story quotes “Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a history professor at New York University and a scholar of authoritarianism” who “said she sees darker motives in Trump’s actions.”

Reported The Post:

“It’s all about manipulating information and recasting the narrative to be what you need it to be,” Ben-Ghiat said. “Even more than censoring, which is old-school, rulers like Trump — and Putin is the master at this — manipulate opinion by manipulating information.”

Got that? There was not the slightest sense of irony that it is in fact The Washington Post that is trying repeatedly “to manipulate opinion by manipulating information.” Not to mention that this very story repeatedly manipulates information.

Ya can’t make it up.

Unless, of course, you are The Washington Post and that is exactly what you are doing.
